We are a family business in the beautiful mountains of Santa Cruz County in California, and in green Southern Maryland, and are starting a socially responsible partnership business in the environmentally friendly and wooly Alpaca. Alpacas are South American Camelids, related to the Llama, and the wild Vicuñas and Guanacos. Many people are finding they are not only a sustainable and easy animals to take care of, they are a smart investment. Or as we say in the business, "a huggable investment". Not only that but they are sweet, intelligent and gentle creatures, who adapt well to many peoples' situation, whether a family starting out, or a retired couple, or a single entrepeneur, or a family partnership.
These pages are just getting started, so check back often. As we expand the site, we will include informational pages, and later, sales of fiber and textile products. When we have animals to sell, we will also show them, though for the first couple of years our herd will be growing. Feel free to contact us with questions, and even if we can't answer you ourselves, because we are also just learning, we will be happy to refer you to someone, or will find out the answer for you.
These lovely creatures will be staying physically in Santa Cruz County, CA. Sharon and Dave Orser, my mother and father are helping us to manifest our dream from Maryland.
If you would like to hear one hum, click here*! My next multimedia file will hopefully be a video of a cria** or maybe more than one cria, pronking! Now what is "pronk" you ask? Well according to Eric Hoffman***, from his bible of alpacas, The Alpaca Book, pronking, or "stotting" as it is also called, is when an alpaca, primarily a young one, -- probably from the sheer exuberance of being alive -- "thrusts the body upward and forward, landing on all four feet at the same time in a stiff legged stance." I think it looks like they are practicing to grow up to be pogo sticks, personally. :) It really inspires smiles when you see them pronking.

There are more in the Gallery (to come), including our 2003 crias, but here's a peak at them now:

Here is Baltazar, a herdsire-to-be:
Wonderful and incredible color, lovely crimp, his average micron count was 22.3, and a comfort factor of 95.2 (ie, 95.2% of the public will find it luscious on their skin!) .
